FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

What a blessing it is to partner with your family to see students academically equipped, Biblically grounded, and spiritually nurture to impact the world for Christ. In the next few weeks, there are a number of pressing and important things happening on our campus. Thank you for keeping these special events on your radar and in your prayers:

Grandparents’ Day – Due to increased enrollment, it is essential that grandparents and grandfriends are the only adults that are present during the performance and classroom visits. We are expecting north of 600 grandparents at HCS this Friday. God has blessed our families richly!

Parent Performance – The Grandparents’ Day Performance will be repeated for parents on Monday, October 17 at 6:30pm. Please plan on arriving early to find parking, as the parking lot will be partially blocked. Only K-5 grade students will be participating in this performance.

Important Parking Lot Work – On Monday, October 10 and Monday, October 17 – Friday, October 21, the East parking lot will be closed due to construction. Due to limited parking on these days, pick-up will last until 3:30pm and parents are asked to space out picking up their children. If everyone arrives before the end of the day, there will certainly be a back-up!

Report Cards: It’s hard to believe it, but we are nearing the end of the 1st quarter. Report cards can be viewed on OnCampus on Tuesday, October 25 and should be reviewed at home with your children before conferences!

Groundbreaking Chapel – On Friday, October 28, a special ground-breaking chapel will occur in the gym. All parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends of the school are welcome to come to this chapel that will last from 8:30am to 9:45am. This chapel will include a time of corporate worship, testimonies, and a time of community prayer.

Again, thank you for your continued support! Each of you make Highland Christian a better place to be!

 Blessings,

Mr. Weener

ACCREDITATION COMMENDATIONS

This week’s trait is:

Power Standards are clearly articulated and are the driver for lesson planning.

SCHOOL NEWS

If your child doesn’t have a grandparent who is able to attend, they may have one special friend come in their place.

Important Parent Information for Grandparents’ Day:

·         K-5 students should wear dress clothes.

·         There is no hot lunch on this day – students should bring their lunch from home.

·         There will be aftercare on this day.

The Parent Performance of the Grandparents’ Day Program is Monday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Parent/Teacher Conferences – Nov. 2&3:  This year, we are again using Schoolbookings.net to let parents sign-up for the conference slot they would prefer. Like last year, 3rd-8th grade conferences will be student led. Pre-K – 2nd grade conferences will just be with the parents. You may sign up for conferences at https://www.schoolbookings.net/code/u9s27.   Our school code is u9s27.

Open this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jqSf8L9vRmnX11WJ7V-K7DSVl2WI7wG5/view?usp=sharing  to watch a short tutorial of how to sign up for a conference slot and be directed to the website. This process is very straightforward and will help simplify this process for the office and give more options to families.

Blessings Through Books Opportunity:  Mrs. Susan Perez, a friend of the school who lives in Hammond, gives out over 400 books during her Harvest Festival along with food and prayers.  We would like to encourage her with this project by giving her books.  We are looking for any gently used bibles, devotional, or bible story books for all ages. We are so grateful for all the books that came in last week, but are always willing to take more.  Just bring your books to the blue bin outside the library to participate in this opportunity.
