HCS Distinctives

HCS Program Highlights

  • Covenant Model Christian Education.

We partner with parent who profess faith in Jesus Christ and are raising their children under God's authority with regular teaching in His Word, and active participate in a local, Protestant Christian Church.

  • Distinctively Christian.

Students participate in classroom devotions, Bible class, and faith formation activities in the course of their regular day.  Chapel provides a time of corporate worship and biblical instruction.  Our doctrinal position is distinctively Reformed.

  • Nationally Acclaimed Model PLC School.

We've implemented the Professional Learning Community framework (Drs. DuFour & Marzano) and earned the distinction of "Model PLC School" in 2019.  Guided by the teachings of Dr. DuFour and Dr. Marzano and informed by Dr. John Hattie's research in Visible Learning, we are able to acheive strong student outcomes.

  • Project Lead the Way Certified.

Our students are equipped with the skills they need for high school and beyond! Project Lead the Way modules provide content rich, hands-on learning experiences that contribute to meaningful acquisition of knowledge, critical thought, and problem solving skills.

  • Standards Based.

Learning and grading is standards based at HCS.  We've mapped our curriculum to Indiana State standards and identified power standards for every grade level and content area.  As a result, we are able to provide a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all students.

  • Data Driven - Results Oriented.

We are data driven and results oriented.  Teachers document and map each student's individual academic journey, providing support and enrichment as needed to ensure high levels of learning for ALL students.

  • Certified Teachers.

All of our teachers are certified and have education degrees; Bachelor of Arts or Master's.

  • Exceptional facilities.

Active learning classrooms provide students with a dynamic environment that is suited to their developmental needs and to multi-faceted instructional methods.  Take a virtual tour of our facility.

  • Smaller Class Sizes.

We offer three sections at each grade level K to 5 and two sections of each grade level 6th through 8th.  Classes range in size from 14 to 25.  In 2023/2024 we will be offering three sections at every grade level with  classes capped at 22 or 24 based on the grade level.

  • Comprehensive Curriculum

Our curriculum includes Bible, Art, General Music, Technology, Physical Education & Library at every grade level (K-8).

  • 1 to 1 Technology Program

While learning is largely textbook based (with ample paper & pencil practice) we recognize the value of technology in education and provide each student with their own device for use in the school year. K-2 students use Ipads.  Students in grades 3-5 use Ipads with keyboards and Junior High students are issued laptops which can be taken to and from school.

  • Encore Classes.

In addition to their core classes, Junior High students enjoy elective classes. These include advanced art, advanced technology, band, choir, spiritual and student leadership, creative writing, instructional support, IMPACT and yearbook/newspaper.
