Called to Be a Blessing

Matthew 5:3-12

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Wasn’t yesterday a gorgeous day? While the kids are always active and energized for recess, a surprisingly warm day surely brings out a whole new level of energy. The Jr. High students proved this to be true by having three games of basketball going simultaneously on one hoop. It was quite a sight to be seen. When you see this new sport in the 2040 Olympics, you can thank the students at Highland Christian.

Recess certainly brings out a special side of students. Kids turn into inventors – creating new games, salesmen – convincing others to join their activity of choice, and expert negotiators – setting favorable rules for the games they play. It is fascinating to see what the kids find to be fun and how they go about developing relationships.

However, the greatest blessing comes in how Christ is magnified on the field, court, and playground equipment. The lonely student gets invited to play with others. A teacher comforts a student who tripped. 8th graders celebrate a basketball novice who sinks a ‘3’ as the bell rings. These are the moments where Christian community comes together.

As I consider HCS’ vision to academically equip, Biblically ground, and spiritually nurture to impact the world for Christ, so much of this vision is accomplished in these fringe moments of the day. These results do not solely come from teachers, but from homes that model empathy, compassion, and generosity and churches that teach God’s Word so it is hidden in each child’s heart. Through these partnerships, our community can grow to reach the world for Christ. Thank you for your continual investment in your children. Because of your labor, our community will be radically changed for Christ.
