SCHOOL NEWS

HCS is currently accepting 2024/2025 registrations for Sonshine Enrichment Center, the preschool of Highland Christian School. We still have openings in all classes, however, they are filling up quickly and we do expect a full enrollment for next year. Our chickens are back in action – laying their multi-color eggs! Eggs sell for $5.00 a half dozen with proceeds going to Phil’s Friends, an organization that supplies care packages for those battling cancer.

Our lost and found is overflowing! If you’re at school, please stop in the gym foyer and check if your child’s items are there.

LIBRARY NEWS

Book Week is this week!  

The Book Fair will be in the gym foyer and is open February 27 -March1from 8:30 – 4 pm each day.  Parents we love that you support the book fair with your children.  Please try to come after school instead of before school to buy books as the bell rings at 8:25 and it is important for your child to be in their classrooms and ready to learn at this time. Thank you for helping with this!! You may also order online at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/highlandchrschool . All proceeds go to the library to buy more books!!  If you would like to help with the Book Fair, please contact Judy H Zandstra at [email protected]  Book Week is loads of fun with reading time each day!

Monday – Be on the Reading Team! – Wear your favorite team or sports t-shirt

Tuesday – The more you Read the more you Know – Dress up like a teacher (They’ll dress up like you)

Wednesday – “Orange” you glad Reading keeps the “Blues” away? – Dress up in school colors

Thursday – I hope you “Sink your Teeth into a Good Book”. Bring your stuffed animal to school

Friday – Reading is a novel idea – Dress as your favorite book character

Read-a-Thon Reminder: If your child has been participating in the Lake County Public Library Read-a-Thon, this is the week to turn in your white envelopes.  A huge thank-you to all who participated in this. What a bonus to have students who love to read, and who are excellent fund raisers.  A portion of the money raised will go towards new books for the HCS library.

PTO NEWS

Next Monday is Restaurant Night at Chipotle in Highland from 4-8pm! More details will be coming home this week.

The next Family Fun Night is for 6-8th grade on March 8! More details will be coming home this week.

TRIP NEWS

Raise Days Extra Bonus Rebates will be coming up this week, Feb. 29th and Mar. 1st, for eGift cards and reloadable gift cards.  A sneak peek of bonus rebates will be on the RaiseRight app on Feb. 28th.  Online ordering is available 24/7.  Contact Ann Lynch at [email protected] for more information.

There are four TRIP order dates available before Spring break to order gift cards!  If you are traveling for Spring break you may be able to pay for hotels, airfare, food, gas, etc. with gift cards.

TRIP is looking for a volunteer to serve on a Tuesday morning TRIP team.  This team takes care of “stuffing” TRIP orders.  If you have up to two hours once a month to serve on a TRIP team let Ann Lynch know at [email protected].

TRIP orders (paper and online) are due this Thurs., Feb. 29th by 10 a.m.  TRIP will be accepting physical gift card orders on Mar. 7, 14, 21, April 11, 18, and 25. 

Team D (Shelly Witham, Mary Brinks, Becca Trepton, Sherry Hiatt) will be putting the TRIP orders together on Tues., Feb. 27th.  Orders will be ready for pick up in the school office on Tuesday by 2:45 p.m.
