Supportive Spaces Encourage Success

HCS Invests in Individuals Series – Mrs. Abby Jacobs, School Social Worker/Counselor

For the last session, a recent group made bracelets together!

Mrs. Jacob’s notices needs and provides supportive spaces that allow students to shine in spaces they used to struggle.  Working alongside teachers, Mrs. Jacobs establishes small therapeutic groups for students when needs are noted.  Often times these groups focus on skills for managing anxiety, building confidence, and developing healthy coping strategies. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, students learn how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected and practiced tools to better manage worry, stress, and overwhelming emotions. The small size allows for individual attention, strong peer and adult connection, and personalized skill practice in a safe and encouraging environment.
