Building Christian Men
HCS… a community committed to the good of our students and the glory of God!
We are grateful for faculty and staff who go above and beyond for the good our students. Five years ago already, Mr. Krooswyk and Mr. Vander Woude embarked upon a journey to develop a program for the young men of our community. Together with a couple of local pastors, fathers, and community leaders, they launched “Building Christian Men.” In this initiative they have brought together fathers and sons, and created a brotherhood around biblical topics, outdoor activities, and other adventures!
With more than a dozen and a half events completed, Mr. VanderWoude and Mr. McClenahan continue manage this initiative to lead, invest in, and challenge our young men to recognize the call God has place on their lives and to commit themselves to grow as Christ-centered leaders who reject passivity, embrace responsibility, and live courageously in faith.
Recognizing that in the beginning, when Adam failed to lead and protect (Genesis 3:6), sin entered the world, we seek instead to walk in obedience to God’s Word and model godly leadership in our homes, churches, and communities. Empowered by the Spirit, we will:
- Take responsibility for our actions and calling (Genesis 2:15; Micah 6:8).
- Lead with courage and humility, following the example of Jesus Christ, the Servant-King (Mark 10:42–45; Philippians 2:3–8).
- Pursue righteousness and faith, as Paul exhorted Timothy (1 Timothy 6:11–12).
- Encourage one another to stand firm, act like men, and be strong in love (1 Corinthians 16:13–14).
- Equip ourselves with God’s Word, so that we may lead with wisdom and truth (Psalm 119:9–11; 2 Timothy 3:16–17).
Our mission is to be men who, redeemed in Christ, restore what was lost in Adam, live faithfully under God’s authority, and lead others into the hope and victory found in Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:17–19; 1 Corinthians 15:22).
Recent BCM Events
On Saturday, March 21, 2026 the HCS-BCM Crew took a trip to the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan at the Indiana Dunes for a unique and memorable outdoor experience.
Students built wood-fired beach ovens, prepared their own homemade pizzas, baked them right on the beach, and—best of all—enjoyed eating what they made! This hands-on activity was surrounded by times of devotions, games, and fellowship making it both a fun and meaningful day for all the men who participated.
