SCHOOL NEWS

Please join us for a retirement open house to celebrate Shirleen Brown’s 45 years of service to Highland Christian School this Saturday, May 20 from 1-4 p.m. in the HCS gym, light refreshments will be served. In lieu of gifts please consider making a donation to Highland Christian for a gaga ball pit, outdoor Buddy Bench and other playground improvements.

Tomorrow our 8th grade class will be leaving for their 8th grade trip to Philadelphia. Please remember to keep them in your prayers as they spend time away from their homes.

Don’t forget to order your yearbook!   They sell for $18.00 and are going fast! Yearbooks will be handed out next Monday, May 22.

Parents – please stop in and check out the “lost and not found” rack in the gym foyer. There are many items there and some of them might be your child’s. Items will soon be given to etc…Thrift Store.

Homemade vanilla is for sale in the office – $2.00 for an 8 oz. bottle. If you have any empty 8, 10, or 12 oz. glass bottles, please send them to the office so more vanilla can be made. Thanks!

Summer Private Tutoring: Cheryl Flory will be offering summer private tutoring for students exiting grades K-6 for Reading and Math. Cheryl currently serves HCS as a school interventionist and supports students with a variety of instructional strategies. Tutoring sessions will be tailored to individual student needs. She will be holding tutoring sessions at school M-F between 8am-1pm; sessions are available for 45 minute time slots. In making a commitment to tutoring, families must be able to attend one session a week. Please contact Cheryl at 708-955-0713 to inquire about tutoring availability. 

PTO NEWS

Thank you to everyone who came out to participate in Muffins for Misses! It was a great success and we had so much fun! 

If you haven’t already purchased your flowers from Big John’s, there is still time! From now until May 27th Big John’s is donating 15% of your purchase to Highland Christian PTO. The form must be presented at the time of purchase. There are more forms available in the school office or you can email PTO at [email protected] for additional forms. Thank you for your continued support of Highland Christian PTO!

CHOICE SCHOLARSHIP NEWS FOR 2023/2024


CHOICE Scholarship Expansion for the 2023/2024 school year has now been signed into law and will go into effect on July 1st.  Families who live in Indiana and meet the increased household size and income limits (400% of F&R Meal Eligibility) will be qualified to receive a CHOICE Scholarship.  You must submit your information for a CHOICE application by June 30, 2023 for the scholarship credit to be applied to your first tuition billing in July.  Even if you do not currently qualify under the previous guidelines but think you might under the new, please submit the form below along with your documentation as soon as possible to avoid any delay in approval.

You can find the current program details at DOE: Indiana Choice Scholarship Program   AFTER you have completed your students’ enrollment contract for 23/24, please complete the form at https://forms.gle/RxMqKTDGsvjSqsey8 You will need to provide current proof of address and documentation of all income within your household for 2022.  These are most commonly shown with a state ID/Driver’s License and the first page of your 2022 Federal 1040.  First time applicants will need to meet with Lisa to complete their application.  Please contact Lisa with any questions or concerns at [email protected] or (219)838-0356 x 168.

LIBRARY NEWS

Just a reminder that all books and fines are due.  Please ask your child about any books or money due to the library as we would love to have all records finalized for the summer.  Also, sorry to have to say this but, any books that are not returned to the library will have to be paid for and will be added to your child’s tuition account. I hope all students enjoy their summer and continue to read.

MUSICAL NEWS

Willy Wonka – the directors, crew and actors would like to thank everyone who made this play possible.  The parents who helped build props, make food, did make-up and hair, helped sell tickets, made the cast party fun, provided food and so many other things.  We appreciate all you did and all the support you gave to the students who participated.  We would also like to thank the students who gave of their time and talents to this production.  You all did wonderful work.

Four TRIP orders left to place a TRIP order for physical gift cards!  TRIP will be accepting physical gift card orders on May 18, 25, June 1, 8 and Aug. 17.  RaiseRight scrip ordering for an escrip and/or a reload card is available 24/7. The first TRIP tuition credit for the 2023-2024 school year will be on your August tuition statement.

TRIP orders are due this week, Thurs., May 18th by 10 a.m.

Team D (Shelly Witham, Mary Brinks, Sherry Hiatt, Becca Trepton) will be putting the TRIP orders together on Tues., May 16th.  Orders will be ready for pick up in the school office on Tuesday by 2:45 p.m.

COMMUNITY NEWS

We’re back, back again! Illiana is once again offering Viking Academy, a summer camp program for elementary and middle school kids. We will be once again offering various academic and athletic camps for 3 weeks in July. Camps include but are not limited to the following, Cheerleading, Lawn Games, Cooking/Baking, various sports camps and more!
