FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Highland Christian has been a staple of the Northwest Indiana community for the past 111 years. Over these years, heroic teams of teachers, dedicated parents, and faith-filled community members have forged the way to support Christian education. One method of support has been generated through Highland Christian’s Foundation. Amassing over $4,500,000, the Foundation has provided stability and resources for the school that will last for generations to come.

Later today, 131 golfers will be hitting the links at Briar Ridge to raise awareness and funds for our beloved school and students. It is through God’s provision over HCS, we have seen community members generously give of their time and resources to ensure God’s good work will continue to impact young and impressionable minds. As you consider the legacy you seek to leave for future generations, we would encourage you to find ways to give of your time, gifts, or resources to support others – through the avenue of Christian education. Here’s to a great day of awareness and support of our cherished children.

SCHOOL NEWS
1. This Wednesday Sept. 1 is our first late start day.  School will begin at 10:00.  If your child rides the bus in the morning, pick up time will be approximately 1½ hours later than the usual pick up time.
2. HCS is seeking a part-time night custodian (20 hours/week during the school year) – effective immediately. Hours are somewhat flexible. Applicants should inquire with Kyle Weener.
3. Important Reminders:
• In order to keep the pick-up line moving, when picking up your child via the pick-up line, please have your name sign in the window.
• If your child will not be riding the bus on any given day, please let the driver and the office know.  This will alleviate confusion, especially at dismissal time.  Thanks!
• Students may begin entering school at 8:05 in the morning and are encouraged to be in their classroom by 8:15 to get their day started.
4. Ladies Prayer Group meets every Friday at 8:30 am. We will meet in the prayer garden at HCS while the weather is nice. All ladies and unschooled children are welcome. Please leave prayer requests with the office or call/text Taliaha Koutz 219-730-8931.

PTO NEWS
1. The Candy Bar Sale is underway! Thank you to all those who are supporting this fundraiser. This fundraiser raises funds for all the events PTO has planned this year (Muffins for Misses, Family Nights, Donuts for Dudes, Teacher Appreciation Breakfast, etc.)
2. Since the first couple of days of the sale were so successful, we have run out of candy bars! However, a new shipment will be delivered on Tuesday. So, if your child requested more boxes today and they didn’t come home with them, we have that noted and they will be receiving them on Tuesday.

ETC …THRIFT STORE NEWS
1. Parents!  Sort nights are back at etc for the 2021-2022 school year!  Join us for the All School Sort Night TONIGHT, Monday, August 30, from 5-7 pm at etc.  Students in 5th grade and up may join the sort night as well.
2. Eighth grade parents and students:  Your sort night is coming up in a few short weeks!  Save the date, September 13, from 5-7 pm for sorting at etc!

ATHLETIC NEWS
1. Thursday, Sept. 2 – A&B soccer vs. DeMotte – AWAY – 4:00 & 5:00
7th & 8th volleyball vs. DeMotte – AWAY – 4:00 & 5:00

TRIP NEWS
1. No TRIP physical gift card orders due this week!  The next TRIP order due will be on Sept. 9th.
2. Just a reminder to the TRIP parents and family members – If you want your TRIP order to go home with your child in grades kindergarten through 8th you need to fill out a new TRIP registration form to give permission for this.  You can find a current TRIP Registration form up on the Highland Christian School website.
3. Online scrip ordering is available 24/7.  If you aren’t signed up for online ordering or you would like more information contact Ann Lynch at [email protected] or 219-838-0356, ext. 199
4. Team A (Julie Sitter, Missy Buikema, Jessica Hiskes, Larissa Vander Pol) will be putting the TRIP orders together on Tuesday, Aug. 31th.   TRIP orders will be ready for pick up in the school office on Tuesday by 2:45 p.m.
