SCHOOL NEWS
This Friday, Oct. 13 is Grandparents’ Day at HCS! If your child’s grandparents did not receive an invitation, please extend one to them. Please make sure the grandparents know who their grandchildren’s teachers are. Gym doors open at 10:15 with the program beginning at 11:00. If your child doesn’t have a grandparent who is able to attend, they may have one special friend come in their place.
Important Parent Information for Grandparents’ Day:
- There is a 1:45 dismissal on that day. If you are picking up your child via the pick-up line, please arrive after 1:45. This allows for grandparents to leave safely.
- If your child is going home with a grandparent, please notify the teacher and bus driver by Thursday. Oct. 12.
- K-5 students should wear dress clothes.
- There is no hot lunch on this day – students should bring their lunch from home.
- There will be aftercare on this day.
The Parent Performance of the Grandparents’ Day Program is Monday, Oct. 16 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Here is the schedule for the Monday night performance:
- 5:45: K-2 Student Arrive at Classes
- 6:00: K-2 Program Begins
- 6:30: K-2 Program Ends (Parents may pick up their child and leave if they don’t have a 3rd – 5th grade child performing in the program.)
- 6:45: 3-5 Students Arrive at Classes
- 7:00: 3-5 Program Beings
- 7:30: 3-5 Program Ends
Parent/Teacher Conferences – Nov. 1&2: This year, we are again using Schoolbookings.net to let parents sign-up for the conference slot they would prefer. Like last year, 3rd-8th grade conferences will be student led. Pre-K – 2nd grade conferences will just be with the parents. You may sign up for conferences at https://www.schoolbookings.net/code/w6vrm Our school code is w6vrm.

BAC Staff: Due to strong participation, HCS is seeking an additional BAC staff member from 7:15am – 8:15am (Monday – Friday). If a parent filled this position, they would be eligible for a 5% tuition discount, hourly pay, and could bring their own children to BAC at no charge. Please email Kyle Weener for more information.

Highland Christian School’s Application Portal is now open for 2024-2025! If you have a younger child who will be starting at Highland Christian School next year, apply now! As we do anticipate full enrollment, we encourage you to apply early! Seats are being held for all currently enrolled students. Re-enrollment will open in February after the budget is set. In the mean-time, you can register for Preschool, sign up for Kindergarten Readiness, and start sibling applications online today!
On Friday, November 10, at 8:45, we will honor our veterans in our Veterans Day Assembly. We would like to invite and recognize our HCS community veterans. etc..Department Sort Nights: Tonight it’s the Primary Dept. Night!! As parents, you may join us this evening from 5-7, get to know each other a little better and support our school. We hope to see you there!
Strack & Van Til’s Apples for the Students program is underway! To earn FREE awards for HCS, we simply have to collect as many register receipts as possible dated between September 1, 2023, through March 31, 2024 from shopping at any Strack & Van Tils, including VanTils in Hammond. Send the receipts to school with your student as often as possible. The school will count the value of the register tapes collected and redeem them for great educational awards that benefit your child. Thank you in advance for your participation!

Monday, Oct. 9 – Cross Country Meet at Illiana – 4:00 start
TRIP NEWS
Two changes are coming up for TRIP order due dates. The first change in order dates is the week of fall break TRIP orders are due on Tues., Oct 17th by 10 a.m. The second change is no TRIP order due during the week of Thanksgiving. We will have TRIP orders due the week before Thanksgiving and the week after Thanksgiving.
The holidays are coming up fast! There will be higher bonus rebates on many retailers before Thanksgiving through Christmas. Are you signed up for online scrip ordering through the RaiseRight app? Online ordering is available 24/7. Contact Ann Lynch at [email protected] for more information.
TRIP orders (paper and online) are due this Thurs., Oct. 12th by 10 a.m. TRIP will be accepting physical gift card orders in Oct. on **Tues., Oct 17, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 16 (no orders due week of Thanksgiving), and 30.
Team D (Shelly Witham, Mary Brinks, Sherry Hiatt, Becca Trepton) will be putting the TRIP orders together on Tues., Oct. 10th. Orders will be ready for pick up in the school office on Tuesday by 2:45 p.m.

COMMUNITY NEWS
New Life CRC (3010 Ridge Road, Highland, IN) will be hosting Trunk or Treat on Tuesday, October 31, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the church parking lot. We will have decorated cars with trunks of candy & treats along with a refreshment table! Don’t forget to wear your costumes! Please contact (219) 838-0506 for more information.
