Constitution Proposed Changes – Revised

Highland Christian School Community –

Since announcing a number of proposed changes to our Constitution, the Highland Christian School Board has appreciated the opportunity to dialogue with our constituency about several technical and strategic changes to the HCS Constitution – the most significant being the modification of church requirements for teachers and administrators. 

After years of research, planning, and discussions, two community town hall meetings on April 3 and April 5, reviewing emailed feedback, and much prayer, the board has prepared a final copy of the proposed Constitution changes. (Anything in red was shared in March. Anything in purple was changed after reviewing community feedback.) 

This proposed change is in addition to our regular Society meeting. Please find the attached agenda here.

As we approach this Society meeting and vote on Monday, May 1, the Board would like to remind you of the following items:

1. With the changes made to the Constitution in 2021, these are the qualifications to be a voting member of the Society:
   • Membership at a Bible-believing Protestant church
   • Given a gift to Highland Christian in the form of a tuition payment or donation in the past year
   • Signed agreement with the school’s Foundational Beliefs.
2. In-person attendance is something that is expected for Society members. The Society meeting will be held on Monday, May 1 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm in the gym and will feature highlights from the year, next year’s budget, an update about the new building project, the 4th and 5th grade choir, staff service awards, and the Constitution Vote.
3. Should a Society member not be able to attend in-person, one may vote absentee  with an electronic ballot. Absentee voting will close on Monday, May 1 at 5:00pm. 

Thank you for your prayerful consideration of these proposed changes. As the Board and Governance Committees have wrestled with the topic of employment requirements since the 2019 school year, we appreciate your time reviewing and considering these proposals.
